On May 2nd, I went to the Museum of Moving Image as part of a class trip. This museum gave an insightful perspective on the history of movie and broadcasting compared to today. What really stood out to me was the movie cameras on the third floor. This part of the exhibit took up at least a third of the third floor and could not be missed. As soon as I saw the line up of cameras, I was infatuated. I have recently gotten more into cameras and their anatomy so I was instantly gravitated towards this part of the exhibit. The first thing related to cameras I came across was the zoetrope. I have learned about the zoetrope but it was really interesting to see it up close. It was obvious that the zoetrope played a big part in the creation of the modern day film camera and the broadcasting of film. Eventually, the kinetograph was invented. For this blog post I will be analyzing this scene in The Social Network (2010).   I will only be looking at the first minute and a half of the clip. This movie does a great job editing its shot to maintain continuity but also, breaking continuity with scenes depicting a flash back and then flashing forward to present day. The first minute and a half of this clip is able to effectively show this. The flashback and flash forwards to present day does not take the viewer away from the plot because it is essential in understanding the plot and the scene shows is already a very tense one. The tension in the scenes keeps the viewer engaged even if there is a cut to an entirely different set and time. The clip starts with two characters on the table during a tense meeting with lawyers. The editing choice made in this scene follows the 180 degree rule. Jesse Eisenberg is always to the right and truly shows the tension between them. Shot List and Synopsis

Synopsis:      A student is running late for a midterm for a class that takes place on the tenth floor. The student rushes to the elevator is forced to frantically wait as the unreliable Hunter elevators are not arriving. The student then gets a notification on her phone and realizes the only way to make it in time is to rush up the stairs. The student rushes up the stairs and finally gets to the classroom only to find a "Class is cancelled" sign. The student relaxes, takes that piece of paper and crumples it up. The student throws this paper on the ground, puts on her headphones and slowly walks to the elevators and waits to go back downstairs. Shot List: 1. Rushing to elevator 2. Waiting for elevator 3.
